back to school feast.

time for our annual back to school feast.

a special time to prepare for the upcoming school year.

the unveiling of all the kids school supplies and goodies.

some take it more serious than others.

and the unveiling of our family theme for the year.

the hubs and I picked one of our family rules.

speak kindly.

we read this book, and did some firstday. kindword. roleplaying.

the kids colored our focus bible verse.

as I prepared the much anticipated desert.

trent uses "banana pudding" as a catchphrase.

he says it for anything. everything.

and continually begs me to make it.

I thought it was the perfect treat to remind us to speak sweetly.

we showered them with blessings and prayers for the new year.

no doubt everyone was a bit excited about school,

even mom.

playground aficionado.

we burkets are serious about play.

so we scour the planet for the worlds best playgrounds.

and hyde park gets a top pick.

it has fountains.

need we say more.

and lions.

we prefer it best at sunset.

and with a smoothie from across the street.

fountains. lions. and smoothies.

it doesn't get better than that.

the zoo.

we burkets love the zoo.

this one loves the animals.

and he, is a bit more skeptical...

 and quite certain the tiger was looking at him.

I'd have to agree.

she loves the monkeys.

especially when they holler and swing.

but her fave are the goats.

she brushes them.

loves on them.

and yells silly things at them.

he loves the rides.

especially the ones you may get wet on.

the carousel. choo choo. and flying bananas.

the grande finale is the safari ride.

the perfect combo of rides & roars.

a wild time.

to do list.

when school ended. we made a summer to do list.

and now as summer ends. we're going back to see how we did.

 

first thing on the list: do nothing.

and do nothing, a lot.

check.

play.

like crazy. silly. burket style. play.

 double check.

make messes.

learn how to crack eggs. make biscuits. and splatter paint.

and learn how to clean messes.

we did everything we wanted to do.

but most importantly we did it together.

and we couldn't have had a better time.
